I have worked in IT for almost 20 years and have visited many different companies, both world wide and in the UK and have seldom walked into a business and been struck instantly by the company ethos. This happened to me when I went to visit our hosting Partner for our Sage Enterprise Management (Sage X3) customers, UKFast.
Receptionists are trained to be friendly and welcoming, however the employees on the desk were not only efficient they were our hosts for the day; ensuring we were looked after with coffees and lunch. One of UKFast’s core values is selecting people who are passionate, knowledgeable and supportive and this really shone through. At Percipient we also pride ourselves on our team; who put customer service at the forefront of everything we do. It is no surprise then that UKFast was voted the ninth best workplace in the Sunday Times Top 100 companies to work for.
We were given a tour of the building and I was in awe of how they had transformed a derelict building in inner city Manchester and made it a fantastic place to work, some of the highlights for me were, the slide which gave you fast access from the third floor to a ball pit in reception, the gym where employees can work out during breaks and lunch, along with a relaxation area where you can play video games such as Super Mario, something I haven’t seen in while and secretly wished I had the time to play.
The interior features large amounts of natural wood, which we were told was inspired by the CEO’s visit to Necker Island. They also have fantastic conference facilities on the third floor with state of the art AV facilities, which we will be using for some forthcoming customer events, so watch this space.
The passion and knowledge is echoed around the building by everyone we met and you can see the commitment the company has, not only toward its current employees and their development, but future ones. Percipient also see the value in developing staff through training and supporting young people through apprenticeship schemes. UKFast and the Dean Trust plan to launch a new digital focused free school for 11 to 16-year olds which will combine traditional education and values with digital literacy and skills. Another first for UKFast.
UKFast not only provide us and our customers with exceptional service, it is truly an inspiring organisation and one I felt compelled to write about.
